FOR HEALTHIER COWS,
THE SOLUTION
IS AT HAND.
We are what we eat. This applies to every living thing, even dairy cows.
Balanced nutrition is fundamental for the health of cows. A cow that feeds well, lives well, and is healthy will be more productive and fertile and enjoy a longer life.
The nSolution R&D area has developed a precise measurement system and specific analyses to design complete feed for dairy cows. This makes it possible to measure the macromineral needs and metabolic status of the animals, and then to produce effective feed. The feed is suitable and functional for covering the precise needs of dairy cows during the different phases of production.
For us, ‘precision nutrition’ involves an ‘optimal mineral balance’. With a OMB, dairy cows live in a state of complete mineral homeostasis. The nSolution system is based on Spada Mangimi’s experience of more than 50 years.

OPTIMAL MINERAL BALANCE The nSolution process begins at the farm, with precise analytical measurements of the urine and milk produced by the cows, and assessment of the mineral content of the TMR and drinking water ingested. The sum of macrominerals in the inputs (TMR and water) and outputs (urine and milk) yields data that, after the due modifications, provide the OMB. This allows us to make a precise diagnostic investigation of the mineral and metabolic status of the cows. The method makes it possible to identify the precise macromineral needs of the cattle and their metabolic status.
STUDY OF AVAILABLE MINERALS Once the real macromineral needs and corrections determined by evaluating the metabolic data have been defined, the macromineral pool can be designed for inclusion in the different concentrates for lactating or dry animals and animals in different stages of growth. The macromineral needs of cows and ruminal bacteria (rumen bugs) are met with the use of mineral sources with measured — and therefore known — bioavailability.
THOROUGH CONTROL ACTIVITIES We provide farms with technical nutritional assistance involving the routine control and evaluation of the herd status, as well as interpreting data related to the animals’ body condition score (BCS), body weight (BW), and locomotion score (LS). A system of electronic equipment installed in the cowshed collects data and sends it to a computer. This important tool, designed and manufactured by Biondi Engineering, monitors the accuracy of the nutrition adopted. It will soon also be supplemented by electronic reading of the state of the cows’ faeces.
PRECISE MEASUREMENTS FOR MINERAL HOMEOSTASIS The technical assistance programme effectively ends with an evaluation of all the data collected from our measurements and, following the appropriate corrections, the mineral homeostasis (MH) — the correct mineral balance for the dairy cow — is obtained. With regard to the macromineral composition of milk, there is a marked improvement compared to the average, with obvious positive effects on dairy yields. This is also confirmed using the lactodynamography (LDG) technique. Mineral homeostasis means greater health, productivity, fertility, and, therefore, longevity.

NSOLUTION ELECTRONIC SIEVE
THE UNIFEED MIXTURE IS ALWAYS UNDER CONTROL.
The physical appearance of the total mixed ration is just as important as the chemical makeup. The TMR particle size assessment is generally carried out using manual sieves, the most common of which is the Penn State Particle Separator.
Today, the nSolution R&D department, in collaboration with Biondi Engineering, is developing a practical electronic sieve that will allow operators in the sector to frequently evaluate and monitor the correctness of the TMR particle composition.
NSOLUTION MEASUREMENT OF GHGs
TO BE SUSTAINABLE YOU NEED A METHOD.
It has always been difficult to measure the greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted by dairy cows during their productive lives (cradle-to-grave). Vastly overestimated data were disseminated in the past and only recently has research provided more realistic values.
nSolution, in collaboration with technicians at the Politecnico di Torino, has started to make its own measurements of GHGs to prove that dairy cows in mineral homeostasis emit fewer GHGs. Data continues to be collected in cowsheds, and the results have been very encouraging.
